Marmot Lodge Review – Jasper National Park

If you are looking for an easy, good-value base in Jasper that still feels rooted in the mountains, Marmot Lodge fits the bill. We spent two nights here in August with our two kids, ages 10 and 12, and it immediately checked the right boxes for a family trip.

The kids enjoyed the indoor pool, while we sat in the adjacent hot tub, allowing us to relax while keeping an eye on them. Evenings were simple, since we could walk into town for dinner and wander back under those big Jasper skies.

The Marmot Lodge is not trying to be a luxury resort, which is part of the appeal here; it is comfortable, straightforward and placed exactly where you want to be for busy days outside.

Description of the Marmot Lodge

Marmot Lodge has that classic Jasper look, with several low-rise buildings set among tall evergreens and motel-style exterior entries.

Inside, rooms are updated in a way that feels practical rather than fussy. You get the things you actually use in the Rockies, like a mini-fridge for snacks, climate control that keeps the room comfortable, and reliable Wi-Fi.

Marmot Lodge location

The Marmot Lodge is on the northern edge of Connaught Drive – the main road through the Jasper townsite. From here, the core of downtown is a pleasant walk for dinners and bakery runs, and you are also well positioned to get out of town quickly for Maligne Canyon, Pyramid Lake or the road to the Jasper SkyTram.

Amenities

The large indoor pool is a genuine highlight of the Marmot Lodge, especially for families. Our kids would have stayed in there all night if we let them. We alternated between the indoor pool area and the adjacent hot tub, which made for a relaxing end to busy days on the trails around town. There is also a sauna for tired legs, plus an additional outdoor hot tub when you want the mountain air with your soak.

Practical touches matter on longer trips, and the on-site laundry and complimentary parking were much appreciated. In summer, there are seasonal mountain bike rentals right at the lodge, which makes an evening spin to Pyramid Lake very tempting.

One amenity we were grateful for was the Pursuit Adventure Centre right on the property. Mountain weather can change plans quickly, and when the forecast called for heavy rain, the staff was able to quickly rebook our Maligne Lake Cruise with zero hassle. Having that desk a few steps from our room is the kind of small convenience that really adds up on a family trip.

Room types

The rooms at Marmot Lodge are straightforward and cover the common needs well. Standard rooms come with either one king bed or two doubles, while Deluxe Rooms give you a little more space and a refreshed look.

We stayed in a standard room with two queen beds, and it worked well for the four of us. If you prefer to self-cater, the Standard Kitchen Suite is worth a look since it sleeps up to six and includes a proper kitchen and dining area.

On-Site Restaurants

On our first night at the Marmot Lodge, we took advantage of the good location and enjoyed a nice walk into downtown for dinner. For our second night, we wanted something easy, so we gave Evil Dave’s Grill a try – it’s right on the property.

Evil Dave’s Grill was fancier than we expected given its fun name. We were thrilled with the excellent international choices on the menu, plus they had a great kids menu which goes beyond the normal chicken fingers, burgers etc. (although as you can see, our son still ordered a hamburger…)

Marmot Lodge with kids

Although it doesn’t have rooms with separate bedrooms, the Marmot Lodge is a solid choice for families looking for good, affordable accommodation in Jasper (which is often very hard to find!)

The pool is the built-in fun that guarantees happy evenings, and the hot tub right beside it makes supervising less of a chore. Walking to dinner means not having to find and pay for parking at the end of the day, which I always appreciate.

If your family prefers to eat breakfast in the room, the kitchen suites keep mornings calm. The atmosphere is relaxed, and staff were kind to our kids everywhere we went, from the pool to the activity desk to dinner at Evil Dave’s.

Marmot Lodge Review – Final Thoughts

Marmot Lodge is the kind of place that quietly supports a great Jasper trip. You get a location that lets you move easily between town and trailheads, a pool and hot tubs that make evenings relaxing, and on-site dining and coffee that keep logistics simple.

Our room with two queen beds gave us the space we needed without paying for extras we would not use, and the on-site Pursuit Adventure Centre earned its keep the moment rain tried to derail our plans.

If your priorities are clean, comfortable rooms, family-friendly amenities and a walkable spot in the townsite, the Marmot Lodge is a smart choice for your trip to Jasper.
